General
This hotel is located close to the centre of Amsterdam and just off the highway A10 which has good connections by car to the airport - reachable within 20 minutes, and to the city centre with tram #2 which takes you to the centre of town within 10 minutes. There is also a shuttle bus to the airport from this hotel but it is not free of charge. The rooms vary in size from medium to large and as of 01 August 2007 have all been renovated. They are modern in design with dark brown furniture with red cushions, and red bed slips and are in very good condition and of a very high standard for a 3 star hotel. The renovated bathrooms also have dark brown wood surrounding modern silver sinks and some bathrooms have glass brick showers, all of which are in very good condition and a great improvement, making it some of the nicest 3 star rooms in Amsterdam. There is a very large restaurant which was also renovated in 2007 and offers a more modern outlook. This is located on the ground floor and currently serves a large hot buffet breakfast only although adjacent to this is a bar area offering drinks and a pool table. In the modernised hotel lobby there is a small cafe serving light snacks and weather permitting, guests can sit in the small garden at the front of the hotel This is a modern, building with no special features. The lobby is large with ample seating and with a lovely, welcoming terrace in the summer months where guests can have a bite to eat or a drink. It was also given a facelift in 2007 and again offers a more modern outlook with modern and welcoming seating, a much more attractive entrance than prior to its renovation. This is a good property located in a quieter part of Amsterdam but still within very easy reach of all tourist attractions, Central Station and the airport and comes highly recommended. 08/2007/JG.

By Car
From the centre of Amsterdam, drive to Hoofddorpplein. Turn into the Aalsmeerweg untill you reach the Aalsmeerplein. Here you turn to the right, into the Vlaardingenlaan. Take the first right (Naaldwijkstraat). At the end you will see the HEM Hotel in front of you, a little to the right.
From direction Zaandam (A10-Coentunnelweg)
Leave the motorway taking exit Sloten/Schinkel (S107). At the top of the slide-road turn right. At the end turn left, take the second street right, drive straight ahead underneath the motorway. You will see HEM Hotel on the left side.
From direction Den Haag / Rotterdam
Leave the motorway taking exit Sloten/Schinkel (S107). At the end turn right past the back of the hotel Mercure. Follow your way until you reach the traffic-lights. Then turn to the right (Aletta Jacobslaan). This road crosses the Vlaardingenlaan. After the second fly-over turn left into the Naaldwijkstraat, at the end is the HEM Hotel.
From direction Utrecht
Drive into the direction of Den Haag. Take exit Sloten/Schinkel (S107). Next, turn right. At the first crossing (Aalsmeerplein) turn left into the Vlaardingenlaan. At the next crossing, take the first right into the Naaldwijkstraat. At the end is the HEM Hotel.
From Zeeburgertunnel
Follow the signs direction Den Haag until you reach exit Sloten/Schinkel (S107). Then follow the directions as above mentioned (from direction Utrecht).
By Public Transport
Tram 2 from Central Station. Get off at Delflandlaan. Walk towards the end fo the Poeldijkstraat, then turn to the right into the Voorburgstraat. After aproximately 50 metres is the HEM Hotel at your right.
Bus number 15 from Amstel station. Change busses at Hoofddorpplein and take bus number 23. Leave the bus at busstop Vlaardingenlaan. Walk into the Naaldwijkstraat at your right. At the end of this street is the HEM Hotel..
Room
The Hem annex rooms are, as the name suggests, located in an annex next to the main hotel building and the bedrooms in this part of the hotel are officially of a 2 star standard. They are smaller than the rooms in the main building and are more basic but are still in good condition, as are the bathrooms which are all with shower only. All the public facilities such as check in and restaurant and bar etc. are located in the main hotel building and all guests receive the same breakfast as those staying in the 3 star accommodation..
Lobby
The lobby is large with ample seating and a lovely, welcoming terrace where, in the summer months, guests can have a bite to eat or a drink. It was also given a facelift in 2007 and again offers a more modern look with modern and welcoming seating and a much more attractive entrance than prior to its renovation..
Exterior
This is a modern building with no special features; however, it does have an attractive terrace at the front of the hotel???s entrance and meals and drinks may be served out here, weather permitting..
